Outline In 2003 Ukraine's government and parliament made significant progress in creating the legislative base for mortgage lending. However, several unsolved issues such as shortage of mortgage-loans-refinancing resources and proper supervision of mortgage operations hinder further development of the mortgage market in Ukraine. Taking into account the importance of mortgage lending for the Ukrainian economy and the growing interest of commercial bank and other financial organizations in mortgage operations, the Round Table aims to raise discussion in order to help finding optimal solutions to the problems of mortgage supervision and refinancing. During the Round Table two invited experts from the Association of German Mortgage Banks, Mr. Tim Lassen and Mr. Volkher Kerl, presented the results of their research on issues of mortgage supervision and refinancing of mortgage loans in Ukraine. In his presentation Director of the Center for Banking Policy Research, Mr. Olexander Kirieiev, highlighted key problems of mortgage development in Ukraine. Representatives of Ukrainian commercial banks, the National Bank of Ukraine, Ukrainian National Mortgage Association, Association of Ukrainian Banks and international organizations participated in the discussion. Papers presented at the Round Table are published in a brochure |
